Why Should You Sell Jewelry?

Diamond Studs

Written by: Andrew Fabrikant

We had a client in today that we have both sold to and bought from.  He has amazing taste in jewelry, as did his mother.  It is always fun to be around knowledgeable, intelligent people.   He is quite a remarkable person.

He does not sell jewelry because he needs the money and he does not buy from us because he is in the proverbial “dog house.”  He buys his wife jewelry for special events such as birthdays and anniversaries.  Last year we sold him a pair of fantastic round brilliant diamond studs (pictured right).  They were a little over 2 carats each and of very high quality.

He came in one day to sell a piece of his mother’s jewelry and we started talking about selling jewelry and why people do it. I mentioned many specific reasons:

  • the price of gold,
  • putting kids through college,
  • rent, mortgages, times of financial hardship, savings, etc…

The conversation reminded me of a professor from an Ivy League college that told me his reasons for selling his mother’s diamond and some of the more valuable jewelry.  “Logic”. That “logic dictates his decisions.” And in this case he had jewelry that was never going to be worn again.  Gold was at record levels and diamonds are currently very strong, so selling makes the most common sense.

He is correct, logic does dictate and selling jewelry now is logical.

So, he came to sell some gold jewelry and a large diamond of his mother’s and left with a big check.  We hope to see him again soon.
