The big change over the last several weeks has been in the gold market. Gold has slipped from historical highs to the mid $1500’s of dollars. In my last market blog I had indicated that I thought the immediate down side risk was greater than potential price climbs.
Diamond prices have remained strong and stable. There is a large demand for bigger and better stones. Prices for diamonds over three carats are at fantastic levels and if you have one that is never worn, now is a good time to consider liquidating. Diamonds under three carat are still holding steady and are perhaps only 5% below their all time highs. Diamonds under one carat have held recent gains as well but are still difficult to sell for premium prices.
Beautiful jewelry in good condition brings tremendous prices and those items in poor condition are not as strong. However, we would recommend that if you have antique jewelry that is lovely but not in the best condition you inquire with us about the value. We will be able to give you proper direction about restoring the jewelry and if it will be worth it to you. We can also advise you on how much you might receive if you were to sell your antique jewelry which can help you make a more educated decision.
We at Andrew & Peter Fabrikant wish you all a wonderful holiday season and the best in 2012.
