A Golden Opportunity was presented to a client of ours when she sold us her 6.05 carat Intense fancy yellow cushion-cut diamond ring.
At Andrew & Peter Fabrikant, we love fancy yellow diamonds! We aggressively buy and sell them. It’s no wonder that yellow diamonds are cherished and collected for their subtly dramatic appeal as the beauty and history behind these colorful gems is very alluring.
Up until the 16th century, diamonds, including fancy colored diamonds, all came from India. Today, Africa, South America, and Australia are the main suppliers of fancy colored yellow diamonds. For every natural color diamond, there are 10,000 colorless ones that have made the trip to the Earth’s surface. Natural fancy colored diamonds are so rare and remarkable that they account for 1% of all diamonds mined today. In fact, not so long ago they were disregarded as geological oddities.
This is the case with older estate natural colored diamonds as they were not as expertly cut and considered more oddities than serious stones. Cutting is the most critical element when it comes to colored diamonds as seeing what angle is going to best maximize the color is optimal. At Andrew & Peter Fabrikant we have the capability of having old fancy diamonds newly cut to realize this optimal body color.
Fancy yellows also comes in a wide range of colors varies from fancy light yellow to the beautiful fancy vivid yellow diamond. Pure Intense Yellow diamonds are referred to as canary yellow diamonds. Fancy Vivid yellow diamond is the most valuable and rare, richest and most intensive hue.
Due to their increasing rarity, natural fancy colored diamonds have never in the history of recorded time been poised to appreciate more. Natural fancy colored diamonds have shown consistent appreciation since tracking began in the 1970’s, with some colors appreciating 50% to 100% and seemingly more on some days.
Just recently –a five carat Yellow diamond has appreciated 40% over last year, currently selling in the range of $75,000-$100,000. According to journalist Michelle Smith from Diamond Investing News, Gem Diamonds whose Ellendale mine supplies Tiffany & Co. with Yellow diamonds, announced that in the first quarter of 2011, it sold natural Fancy Yellow diamonds to Tiffany & Co. for an average of $3,379 per carat compared to $2, 545 per carat during the first quarter of 2010 (2011).
Beyond their physical characteristics, women simply love wearing them. Fancy yellow diamonds look beautiful with any type of skin tone. For those interested in their metaphysical aspects, being the color of the sun, yellow diamonds symbolize energy, wisdom, joy, renewal and hope. Their amber glow seems to illuminate a woman with a golden aura.
